Here at the Johns Hopkins University Laboratory for Child Development, we have many years of experience studying the development of math and other cognitive abilities.  This study offers us the unique opportunity to investigate how extra-curricular clubs affect kids’ relationship with math.

In the Math Anxiety and Perception Study, we are interested in studying the effects of extra-curricular activities on children’s math anxiety and perceptions.  To do this, we ask kids to answer questionnaires both before and after their participation in an extra-curricular club.  For clubs close to us here in Baltimore, we would may also request a visit to your club for our research team to play a fun computer game with the children!  Our aim is to observe and measure the differences made by these clubs on the way children feel about math.
